Viewing Great Rift ValleyReference Code: ET20060620-piX Samburu Game Reserve, game viewing, Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru, Masai Mara.
This safari offers fantastic insight into the diverse nature and landscape of Kenya. With visits to the forested highlands, the semi-arid north, the Great Rift Valley and the savannah grasslands, this trip is an excellent all-encompassing introduction to east Africa. Virtually unlimited wildlife experiences, and encounters with indigenious tribes make this a trip to remember.
Day 1 Nairobi :
depart Nairobi early in the morning, and drive north through the farmlands of the Kikuyu people, eventually reaching Naro Moru in time for lunch. This village sits at the foot of Mount Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain (5199m). The Kikuyu people deified Mount Kenya, and actually built all of their houses with doors facing this majestic peak.
Day 2-3 :
Samburu Game Reserve
Samburu Game Reserve is home to a number of wildlife species rarely found elsewhere. We enjoy two days of game viewing in search of species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Beisa oryx and Somali ostrich.
Day 4 :
Lake Nakuru
Passing the northern tip of the Aberdare Mountains, then descending into the Great Rift Valley, we come to Lake Nakuru. Lake Nakuru is a shallow soda lake, renowned for its huge concentration of flamingoes. We spend the afternoon game viewing in the park.
Day 5-6:
Masai Mara The Masai Mara's vast open plains and distinctive flat-topped acacia trees provide the landscape for this memorable part of the journey. With fantastic game viewing en route, we arrive at Masai Mara in the late afternoon and set up camp. Masai Mara is famous for excellent chances of seeing the “big five” – lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino.
Day 7 :
Enjoy one last game drive in the morning, before having a final breakfast and heading back to Nairobi in the early evening.
